45 ft sewer lined behind an ornamental retaining wall in Chula Vista

The situation

Chula Vista has plenty of older housing with original cast iron and terra cotta laterals, and this one was at the end of its life: the camera showed a pipe that was cracked, separating and shedding material. The catch was a large, elaborate retaining wall built directly over the line. Digging it out was not something the owners were willing to consider.

The fix

Cured-in-place lining needs only an access point, not a trench, so the wall was never in play. TSR cleaned the 45-foot run, installed and cured a new liner, and left the homeowners with a seamless pipe and an intact wall. Every remaining foot of old pipe out to the city connection was covered by the liner, so there is no weak section left to fail later.
