The buyers had asked for a sewer inspection before closing, which was sensible: it showed a cracked clay pipe full of roots. The sale contract required the seller to fix it, and the listing agent needed a repair that was fast, would not tear up a nicely landscaped yard, and would satisfy the buyers.
