Pacific Beach has a lot of original cast iron in the ground, and as it ages the interior pits and flakes. Paper catches on the rough surface, dries between flushes, and builds up until the pipe blocks. The camera inspection showed the pipe wall was compromised along its full length, not just at one spot.
TSR recommended lining the entire lateral rather than chasing individual bad sections. The crew installed a continuous liner over about 65 feet of rotted cast iron in one day. Everything happened underground: no trench in the yard, and the front patio was never touched. The post-lining video shows a smooth, seamless interior where the pitted iron used to be.
